The supply of peat
The wet weather during 2012 has restricted the supply of peat for the coming season and as a result prices for peat-based growing media (multi-purpose composts etc) will probably increase......(more)

Progress to 25th April

On April 25th, with wide variation in leaf growth showing, we assessed the plants and scored them as follows

While some varieties were only just breaking the surface, Swift had produced vigorous shoots and leaves more or less covering the surface of the compost with significantly more top growth than any other variety.

Note: top growth on each plant was scored 0 – 10 with 0 indicating no visible growth and 10 being the score for the plant with the most top growth.

Final harvest of potatoes on 13th June

On June 13, 70 days after planting, the bags were tipped out and the tubers from each plant brushed to remove compost, counted and weighed to the nearest gram. There were no green tubers.
